Traditional Worship

8:30 a.m.

We call our first service on Sundays “Traditional.” In music and service style, our early service is classic Lutheran. Members and visitors tell us that it is “traditional worship done well,” with a comfortable, worshipful tone.

Both the hymns and liturgical setting come from Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW), a newer worship resource of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

This service includes engaging proclamation of the Word, prayers, and the weekly sharing of Holy Communion.

Jazz Worship/Discover Service

10:30 a.m.

The Jazz Service, as our 10:30 a.m. non-traditional service is called, is another way of worshiping. Acoustic jazz/gospel and an eclectic collection of music led by our musicians on bass, guitar, sax or flute, and sometimes piano or drums, provide the rhythm and ambiance for this service.  Check it out.

The service is designed to be open, comfortable, and accessible to varied ages and life situations, with enough consistency to be sacred and enough change to be engaging. This can be a good place to explore and strengthen your spirituality in a community seeking to follow Jesus.

The service includes singing, prayers, reading of scripture, Holy Communion, kids’ time, and preaching and a time of reflection where people share further questions and ideas about the sermon’s message.

Child care available: Salem and our partners in SpringHouse Ministry Center have a professionally staffed nursery/child care program to provide child care beginning at 8:30 each Sunday.  There are activities for children 8 years and under.  We particularly encourage families to worship together, especially during the last half of Jazz Service for Holy Communion and kids’ time.
