Rhonda Hlavinka



Pastor Rhonda Hlavinka was called to Salem in April, 2016.  Pastor Rhonda has more than 14 years of ministry and pastoral experience. Prior to entering the call process with Salem, she was on leave from ministry. Her most recent ministry roles were as Director of Family Ministry at Salem Lutheran Church in West Saint Paul, Minnesota (2012-2014) and as Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministry at Long Lake Lutheran Church in Isanti, Minnesota (2007-2011). Pastor Rhonda lives in Blaine with her husband and two children.

Laurie Zaepfel

Church Administrator


Laurie Zaepfel has been at Salem since 2011 and enjoys the great folks of  the congregation. She has worn a number of hats since college – catalog librarian, seminary student, and mom. She is also a singer, and is currently a member of the a capella vocal ensemble Caritas. Laurie lives in St. Paul with her husband and two daughters.

Jon Bates

SpringHouse Youth and Young Adult Minister


Jon Bates serves Salem and the other SpringHouse congregations as our shared Youth and Young Adult Minister. In this part time role, Jon works with our youth ministry on Sunday mornings and various other events and gatherings.  Jon is originally from Shoreview.  He attended St. Cloud State University and Augsburg College.  Jon served as Director of Youth, Family and Education Ministries at Atonement Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana from 2016-2017.  Besides serving as youth minister for SpringHouse, he also works at the Star Tribune as a Digital Media Customer Support Specialist.

Tom Pieper

Jazz Music Man


Tom serves Salem as a part-time jazz music coordinator and upright bass player for our non-traditional service. He has also worked as a full-time freelance musician for many years. He teaches orchestra at Wayzata Central and East middle schools and is a faculty member for bass and electric bass at MacPhail Center for Music. He continues to perform in SpiritJazz, a jazz band that he founded with his wife, Karen.

Kent Goodroad

Kent Goodroad joined the Salem staff in May, 2016.  Kent is an in demand performer, composer, and music educator both locally and nationally.  Kent performs and composes for organizations including Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), Augsburg College, Thrivent Financial, The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Youth Performance Company, Washburn High School, among others. Kent’s current professional endeavors include performing as the musical guest for MPR’s Talking Volumes series, co-music director at Redeemer Lutheran Church, and teaching private lessons. Kent is a member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association, and volunteers his musical gifts with the Redeemer Music Academy located near North Minneapolis.
